At one of Ellen Greenfield‘s and my recent book launch parties I told this story during Q&A:
My husband was working in Europe (he’s a musician), and before he left, I asked him to read The Tattooed Heart. (Since he’s not a novel reader, I’d never asked him to do this before, but hey, since the whole world is now reading it…)
Anyway, a few days into his tour, Jerome wrote to say that he was enjoying the book, though he found Gracie’s adventures “harrowing.”
And I wrote back, “You think that’s harrowing, check this out: You’re married to her.”
